| ARRIVAL There are two channels for customs clearance 1. GREEN CHANNEL for passengers not having any dutiable goods. 2. RED CHANNEL for passengers having dutiable goods. DUTY FREE ALLOWANCE Tourists other than from Nepal and Bhutan can bring in personal effects duty free, without any limits. Tourists of foreign origin may bring in duty free gifts worth Indian Rs.4000/- whereas the tourists of Napalese and Bhutanese origin cannot get any free allowance. Indian residents and foreigners residing in India (other than from Nepal, Bhutan, Myanmar or China) are entitled to bringing in used personal effects including one watch, whereas if the stay abroad is more tha 3 years other articles worth Rs.12,000/- or Rs.6,000/- incase stay is upto 3 days. For children below 12 years will get 25/- of the above. The following will also include in the above said duty free allowance: a. 200 cigarettes or 50 cigars or 250 gms tobacco. b. Alcoholic liquor & wines upto 2 litres each. GOLD AND SILVER Only the passengers of Indian origin could import gold and silver in to India. PERSONAL EFFECTS are defined as clothing and other articles new or used which the tourist resonable require, excluding merchandise for commercial purpose will be allowed free of duty. Personal effects which are not consumed during the stay in India are required to be taken back on leaving the country. FOREIGN EXCHANGE/CURRENCY Declaration of foreign exchange/currency is required to be made before the custom officer in the follwing cases: 1. Where the value of foreign currency notes exceeds U.S.$5000/- or equivalent. 2. Where the aggregate value of foreign exchange including above exceeds U.S.$10,000 or its equivalent. NARCOTIC DRUGS Posession of Narcotic drugsis strictly prohibited. The quantum of punishment will be decided in accordance with the law of the country where the passenger is caught carrying such drugs. The punishment can extend to even death sentence. DEPARTURE Taking out exotic drugs wild orchid and wildlife both flore and fauma is strictly prohibited. Similarly taking out antiques, ivory or animal skin or the articles made out of the above and gold coins are also strictly banned. Stay beyond 180 days in India require a income tax clearance certificate which can be obtained from the Income tax office. |
